Yonsei ID & Banking

What is Yonsei ID Card?

Yonsei ID card is a multi-function smart card made in collaboration with Woori Bank. It offers conveniences of campus life, such as identification card, cash withdrawal, and etc. for Yonsei University Student/Faculty/Staff. For more information, please refer to Yonsei University Homepage.

Main Function

Entrance check

Accessible to library and other permitted facilities.

Electronic attendance check

Class attendance will be checked by tapping your ID card on the terminal located next to the entrance door of classroom. Class attendance information can be looked up through the Electronic Roster at Yonsei Portal Service website.

Check card

ID card can be used to pay for the goods at general credit card member stores within the balance of your bank account if it is connected with a campus Woori Bank.

Library use

Library entry, seat assignment of the reading room, and book loan/return system (including book checkout and check-in machine) can be utilized.

Cash card

Bank transaction, such as cash deposit/withdrawal, and others can be made via Woori Bank ATMs if the ID card is connected with a campus Woori bank. You can also withdraw money from other bank’s ATMs with the card. (It can be used after initial inquiry transaction through Woori Bank ATMs. [Limit: within the balance of your Woori Bank account])

Transportation card

Subway and buses can be used with the ID card as a prepaid public transportation card after the cash charge in the campus ATMs.

Note
  • If a foreigner wants to add a check/transportation card function to the ID card, please take your current student ID card, Foreigner Registration Card, a Certificate of Attendance/Employment to Woori bank on campus. Your current student ID card will be disposed and a new ID card with check/transportation function will be given.

Application

New(or Transfer) International Students
How to apply

Apply at Yonsei Portal Service during the designated application period. The schedule will be notified on the University Homepage Notice board in early February/August.

  1. Visit Yonsei Portal Service
  2. Log in with your student ID number and PW (initial PW: D.O.B. in YYMMDD order)
  3. Go to Academic Information System > Issue Student ID > Apply for an ID card
  4. Agree with personal info. collection, utilization, and processing entrustment to a trustee
  5. Check applicant’s information
  6. 신청 (Apply)

    The photo file should be in a JPG format with no more than 200KB.

How to pick up

Newly enrolled students ID will be distributed to the office of each college that the students’ are affiliated when issued.
*Note: If ID cards are not picked up within 2 weeks of issuance, it will be discarded for safety reasons.

The schedule will be notified on the University Homepage Notice board in early February/August.

It is required to bring Passport or Foreigner Registration Card.

Current Students

How to pick up

ID cards can be picked up at the office of each college that the students’ are affiliated when issued.

Faculty
How to apply

Apply at Yonsei Portal Service all-year-round.

How to pick up

Approximately one week later at Woori bank Yonsei branch.

Re-Issuance

It is required to report immediately to both school and bank in case of losing the card to minimize potential loss

  1. STEP1. Report of loss ID(Lost/Damage/Expired) through Yonsei Portal

  2. STEP2. Reissue ID (ID Card Management -> ID Card Application)

  3. STEP3. ID cards with check card functions must be picked up at Woori Bank Yonsei Branch and then visit the Office of Academic Affairs (Room B101, Underwood Hall, Sinchon Campus) to add your student information. ID cards without check card function must be picked up at the Office of Academic Affairs (Room B101, Underwood Hall, Sinchon Campus)

Mobile Yonsei ID Card (Yonsei Y-MID)

Eligibility
  1. Those who are currently employed or currently enrolled in Yonsei University
  2. Those who have a plastic Yonsei ID card
  3. Those who have an NFC-enabled Android mobile phone.
  4. Those who have a mobile phone of 3 major mobile services in Korea(SKT, KT, LG U+) under their own name
    • NFC service is not available for a budget phone or foreign phone users
    • Android version 4.4 or above
How to apply
  1. STEP1. Students using SKT, KT, U+ telecom service under one’s name who have been issued a plastic ID card, and agreed to the collection and usage of personal information on mobile student ID cards.

  2. STEP1. Download the Yonsei University Mobile student ID card(Y-MID) app through Google Play Store

  3. STEP1. Change the Setting to Mobile ID (모바일 학생증) ON, Plastic Card (학생증 카드) OFF

[Note] After changing the setting(Card -> Mobile), it takes 5~10 mins to be activated as a Yonsei ID and vice versa.
